Allen continued to listen to Ted congratulate him on the success of the Marketing Division of the Los Angeles office. Allen then got the information that he had been selected to do the Marketing Strategy and Campaign for the opening of the new store that had a target date for the summer of 2000. Allen responded by telling Ted that he was honored and that he would do the same job that he had been doing in LA to get the same results if not better for Toronto. Allen and Ted continued with small talk before Ted ended the call.
"Ted," Allen said,
"it was wonderful talking with you, I thank you for
the many compliments on my work as well as the being recommended by
the staff there in Oregon."
As Allen was ending the conversation with Ted, Mary walked in with a
message and set it on his desk.
"I look forward to hearing from you in the near future Ted,"
Allen said
as he hung up.
"Ted,"
Mary said, "you must have really got in good with Mr. Douglas,
because he always wants people to call him sir."
"Yeah, that's what I hear."
"Well what happened?"
"Will you die if I don't tell you?"
"No."
"Good then you don't need to know,"
Allen said with a smile.
"Oh,"
Mary started in a playful tone, "
I take your messages, get your
coffee and I'm nice to you, and this is how you repay me, by keeping
secrets from me?"
"Calm down, calm down, what we talked about was the success of the
stores that I have opened as well as the success that we have had in the
LA store. He also informed me that I have been recommended by the
other big wigs to do the marketing strategy and campaign for the new
store in Toronto."
"That's great news," Mary said with a huge smile as she went back to
her desk to catch her ringing phone.
Allen sat and thought about his recent advancement at work and
smiled. He felt confident about his new responsibility because he
believed in himself but more important, he truly believed that GOD
would never give him more than he could handle. Remembering that he
was at work still, he discontinued his thought and took notice of the
message that Mary had placed on his desk.
Allen saw that it was a message from Charles. Charles wanted to get together for lunch and
Allen thought that would be a good way of rewarding himself for his
recent success, so he phoned Charles. They decided to meet at the
California Pizza Kitchen on Ventura Boulevard since Allen and Charles
both lived in Woodland Hills. And because of the distance from work,
Allen informed Mary that he would be leaving for the day.
