Allen decided to stop by the cleaners on his way to drop off the bag of clothes he was carrying in the trunk of his car. Allen drove a midnight blue Cadillac Escalade with personalized plates that spoke his true love. His plates were the essence of his being and the way to eternal life. His plates simply said: GODSSON, which he knew, the only way to eternal life was by being a child of GOD. Allen left the cleaners and headed for the 405 freeway, only to find it congested with afternoon traffic. For the moment Allen thought to cancel his lunch plans with Charles, but thought better of it since he had already left work and it was a beautiful day.
Allen continued, hoping that the congestion that he sat in would
soon clear up and he could make his appointment on time. Then as if
his thoughts were prophetic, the congestion that made many LA
residents disgusted; began to flow like a runny nose. Allen rode in the
98-degree heat with his air conditioner on high and his radio playing
Brian McKnight's hit CD entitled, Anytime. As Work to do played, Allen
thought about the last relationship he was involved in. Though he
couldn't think of the positive aspects of the relationship, he did smile at
the thought of the lessons he learned.
Allen's last relationship, though
only a few months, was filled with lies, no communication, and abuse in
every aspect. Allen conceded that the next relationship that he would be
involved in would need to be filled with the utmost trust. He learned that
if there was no trust, the relationship wouldn't last. He also learned that
there had to be more communication in the relationship, but not
communication between dysfunctional children, but communication that
mature adults have. With all of the love that the antecedent relationship
had taken from Allen, he also knew that he had to be able to love
someone the way that he himself wanted to be loved.
Allen pulled into the driveway to find Charles waiting for him at the
door of the restaurant.
"It's about time you got here bruh," Charles said.
"I got caught in a little traffic."
"Well, you here. I'm hungry, so let's go eat."
"I have no problem with that C," Allen said as they entered the
restaurant.
As the hostess led the two men to a table, Charles took notice of the
many women who sat with their girlfriends.
"Jones,"
Charles started,
"now this is what I'm talking about. Look at
the women in here, your mama would be happy with one of these girls."
"Yeah, I'm sure mom's would be very happy, but the question you
have to ask is would I be happy with her?"
"My man, the way these girls look, you don't have to be happy for a
lifetime, you just need to be happy for a few nights a month."
"Surprise me C,"
Allen said with a straight face, "and fall in love with
a woman's mind, body, and soul. Be a woman's king as she is your
queen, and the two of you rule her queendome. Be the source of a
woman's inspiration, instead of giving her your perspiration from one
night of lustful bliss. Surprise me C."
