Allen got off the phone with the worry of why the test results were taking so long to come back. Once he realized that all he could do is wait and pray just as his parents were doing, he decided to concentrate on work. Allen continued to view the messages that crowded his desk and noticed that there was one from a corporate big wig that was marked urgent. Allen didn't know what to think of this message, so he called Mary in to ask her what was said other than have him to call ASAP.
"I believe,"
Mary started,
"it has something to do with the opening of
the new Nike Town store in Toronto."
"Toronto!"
Allen said surprisingly?
"Now I don't know for sure, but he did ask me if you could deal with
cold weather."
"I guess I'd better return the call. OK, thank you Mary."
"Yes, that might be the wise thing to do," Mary responded with
sarcasm.
"Again Mary, thank you and close my door on your way out."
Mary got the hint that Allen didn't want to be bothered by the
constant sarcasm that she was known for, so she did what she was
asked to do. Allen thought momentarily, and then decided to return the
call. Besides, he knew that termination was the result of not returning a
call from a big wig, especially a call marked urgent.
"Mr. Douglas please,"
Allen said to the receptionist on the line,
"yes
you may, this is Allen Anthony with Nike Los Angeles."
Allen waited on
the line while the call was transferred to Mr. Douglas.
"Hello Mr. Douglas sir, this is Allen Anthony returning your call from
yesterday. I'm doing fine sir, thank you for asking,"
Allen said in a
confident voice.
"Yes sir, I have heard a little about the new store in
Toronto, but that's all I have heard."
Allen could tell that Mr. Douglas had a sense of humor when he
cracked a joke and told him to call him by his first name, which was Ted.
Allen agreed to call him Ted and informed Ted to call him Allen.
"What is it that I can do for you Ted?" Allen asked.
Ted informed Allen that he had been looking at the results of the
stores that he has opened in the last two years, and that he was
impressed with his work in marketing the opening of the stores.
"Well sir, excuse me,"
Allen said correcting himself,
"well Ted, I am
pleased to know that the work that we do here in LA doesn't go
unnoticed."
