As Allen returned to the kitchen, once again his phone rang. He was sure that this would be Calorie calling with the information he was waiting for.
"Yo," Allen's greeting changed believing that it was Calorie on the
other end of the phone. "Yes, this is he," Allen continued as his
enthusiasm decreased after realizing the caller was not Calorie. "Huh, I
just can't get away from you guys at all, can I? Yeah well, I didn't have
time to hold the phone a moment ago, so since I have you on the line, let
me be the first to say that your check is in the mail. No, I can't say that I
would be interested in doing a check by phone.
Hey, I have a question
for you, are all bill collectors like you? What do I mean, I mean
annoying. Sir you have a great day." Allen hung up the phone and
continued with his plan of making breakfast and paying bills. As he
wrote out a check for the last payment, his phone rang again. Allen was
sure that this would be Calorie calling, but just in case it wasn't, he
thought he'd check his caller ID before he answered.
"Yo man, it's about time you got back to me," Allen said with
frustration in his voice. "Never mind what's wrong, what are the plans
for the day? So what time are we meeting? I'll see you guys there."
Allen ended the call and placed the cordless phone on the counter
next to the stove where he stood stirring the grits he was preparing.
Allen again began to contemplate the long lasting thought of
companionship and what it truly meant to him. He decided that he
would bring it up to the fellas on this day, their day, a day that was
sacred from the discussion of love, life and most importantly,
relationships.
While Allen ate, he couldn't help think about the young
lady at the supermarket, but he also thought, that if it were meant to be
he would have taken the opportunity to get more information at the time
of their meeting, or he would see her again. With his thoughts playing
the role of the devil's advocate, he dismissed them and began to clean the
dirty dishes before he left for Gigolo's house.
Allen decided to take Ventura Boulevard into the Hollywood Hills
where Gigolo lived. While he drove, he again thought about his
immediate future. He knew that he would be secure with his position at
work with the new Toronto store opening next year, but what he didn't
feel secure with was his lack of a love life. He thought of how his mother
would feel if he were in a relationship. He also thought of how the fellas
would react to a woman in his life.
He knew that he would get a positive
response from Charles and Cupid, but he didn't know the response of
Walter, Calorie and Gigolo. However, there was one underlining factor
that made the reaction of his mother and the reaction of the fellas
irrelevant. Allen thought more of how he would feel being in a
relationship again. It had been over three years since he had been
involved with anyone in a serious capacity, and the thought of seeing
himself in a relationship excited him. The fresh dalliance that came with
a new relationship empowered him to recite freelance poetry as he drove.
"Sunshine prays for the diligent hunt of war to end
And recite the song of allegiance loud and proud.
Truth, honesty, loyalty, respect, trust, honor, commitment,
The song of love is heard, over and over again for the first time."
