Allen arrived in a cold and snowy Toronto close to 7:00 am and headed directly to his hotel to catch up on some much needed sleep. Allen checked into the four-star Chelsea Inn in Downtown Toronto. To Allen it was 4:00 am, and this was not a time he had become accustomed to awakening. He took notice of well-dressed businessmen and women sitting in the lobby area making early morning calls, working on their computers and reading the newspaper as they sipped piping hot coffee and tea to go along with the tasty pastries that were supplied by the hotel.
He admired the marble floors and large pillars in the hotel foyer
while he awaited check-in. The bell captain, dressed in a Gray suit and
white shirt and gray tie, stood at the left side of the front desk waiting to
assist Allen with his luggage. Allen had been checked in and was then
handed the room cardkey and directed to the elevator. He was ensured
that his luggage would be sent to his room shortly. Allen thanked the
front desk clerk and followed the directions to the elevator.
Allen entered the room to find a king size bed and a few of the items he
liked sitting atop it. Red vines, cashews, Barqs root beer and a bag of
Hickory BBQ Ruffles, all compliments of the hotel and Mary.
"What would I do without her?" He said aloud as he tossed the room
card key on top of the nightstand.
He took a look around the room to become more familiar with his
environment. After all, this would be what he called home for the next
month or two. He admired the large spa style bathtub that sat in the
bedroom. He noticed the terry cloth towels and robe that were set out for
his use. On the desk sat a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of Asti
Spumanti and a thank you card from the Nike Corporation.
As Allen removed the items from his carry on bag, he heard a knock on the door.
He assumed it was the bellboy with his luggage so he removed a ten-
dollar bill from his wallet and proceeded to open the door. The bellboy
entered and unloaded Allen's luggage swiftly and extended his hand to
meet Allen's hand to receive the tip.
"Now I can take a much needed nap." Allen said as he closed the door.
With the time difference being three hours, Allen laid down before
calling back to the LA office for updates. He wasn't expected into the
Toronto office until tomorrow and Andrew wasn't arriving until later in
the evening so he thought to see a little of the city after his nap.
Helen sat and rested her tired body before making preparations for
her dinner date. She had been having one chemotherapy session a
month to combat the cancer, which was tiring her. Earlier in the day
however, Helen's doctor called and informed her that even with the
chemo treatments, the cancer was not going into remission. He then told
her that it would be best to amputate the infected breast before it began
to spread further. Helen cried for a moment.
