"Jes," Gwen called, "I'm getting ready to go get my hair done. Are you going?"
Gwen waited for Jes' response while she got dressed. Gwen called
again. Finally Jes responded.
"What time is it?"
"It's eight-thirty, now get up if your going."
"Why are you up so early?" Jes yelled from her room.
"Because I have plans this afternoon, besides I have an appointment
at nine-thirty."
"Do you always have to be so punctual, besides, you know damn well,
when you get there you still gon' be waiting another hour before Gigi gets
started on your hair?" Jes stated as she staggered into the living room.
"Yes I do, I'd rather be there on time just in case Gigi is on schedule.
Maybe you should try it sometime."
Gwen got her jacket from the closet and told Jes that she would see
her later on in the evening because she would be meeting up with CJ for
lunch and they were going to possibly catch a movie afterwards. Gwen
invited Jes to go along with them, but Jes declined and told Gwen that
she would be at home for the evening.
"Well have fun," Gwen said to Jes as she walked out the door.
"Hello Ms. Matthews," Mr. Davis said as he watered his lawn, "fine
morning this morning, isn't it Ms. Matthews?"
"Yes it is Mr. Davis, and how are you this morning?"
"I'm doing just fine, thank you for askin'. My GOD Ms. Matthews,
you just keep gettin' more beautiful everyday don't cha?"
"If you say so Mr. Davis, and please Mr. Davis, call me Gwen."
"OK Gwen, and you call me Charles."
"OK Charles, you have a nice day," Gwen said as she continued her
walk to her car.
Gwen got into her car and drove off with Mr. Davis waving behind her.
With Gwen gone and having no one to bother her, Jes got back in
bed. While she lay, attempting to go to sleep, the phone rang. She
wondered if she should answer the phone or not. She waited, and then
decided to answer the phone, since her morning was already interrupted.
"Hello," Jes spoke, "no Gwen is not here at this time, may I take a
message for her?"
Jes grabbed the pen and pad that sat next to the phone to take the
message.
"OK, I'm ready."
