It's another Sunday afternoon for the fellas, with the morning filled with phone calls and the question, 'whose house will we watch the game at today?' "Yo Jones, are we at your house this week?" Calorie asked. "I hadn't planned it. Why don't you give the rest of the fellas a call and see what the plan is, then get back to me?"
Allen hung up the early morning wake up call and proceeded to the
bathroom. He turned on the shower then brushed his teeth. Allen
began to undress in front of the fogging mirror, while thinking about the
many Sundays that he has spent with the fellas. Week in and week out
for the past six years, Sundays had been spent with the fellas.
Reminiscing about the glory days of college.
The many frat parties,
football games, and women that the fellas had come in contact with. He
thought of the future and what it meant to him. He thought about the
young lady that he met at the supermarket, and wondered if he would
ever have the chance to see her again. Allen got into the shower, again
heavily thinking about his encounter at the supermarket. For a reason
that his mother would be delighted about, Allen could not shake the
endless thought of a women that he didn't know. Allen thought, could
he be in love with a stranger?
A woman that occupies as much time in
Allen's mind as any person that maintained a purpose in his life? There
had to be more to it than just a simple thought of a woman. While Allen's
thoughts of a beautifully mysterious woman carried him into bliss, the
ringing phone brought him back to earth. Allen could hear the phone
ring, but he thought little of it. He figured that it was Calorie calling
back to let him know about the plans for the day.
"Well that's what *69 is for," Allen said quietly as he continued to
bathe himself.
The phone call proved to be availing to Allen's thoughts as he focused
more on the fellas' ceremonial Sunday. Allen wondered how long the
engagements would last, and if there would ever come a time when the
fellas would have their wives watch the games with them. Allen got out
of the shower and began to put fresh fragrances from Bath and Body
Works on his wet body. He pulled out a pair of Calvin Klein boxers, a
pair of shorts from his drawer and a Calvin Klein shirt that he had
picked up from the cleaners.
Once Allen was dressed, he checked the
phone to see if there was a message left from the last caller. He thought
that Calorie might have called back with the plans for the day. To his
surprise, there was a message left from his mother. She was calling to
see how he was doing and if by chance had he fallen in love. Allen knew
that was her fun way of saying that she wanted to have grandchildren.
Allen decided to return his mother's call later in the evening, but right
now he had decided to make breakfast and write out his household bills
for the month while he ate. Allen removed a pot that hung from the wall
over the stove so that he could boil water for grits. As he removed the
eggs out of the refrigerator, the phone rang. Allen was sure that this was
Calorie calling with the information as to where they would watch the
game at today.
"Hello," Allen spoke dryly.
He listened; then he abruptly hung up the phone.
"I'm getting ready to pay all of you bill collectors right now," he said as
he walked to the bedroom to get his briefcase and checkbook.
