Throughout the church, you could hear members saying amen and all right, along with tell it like it is Pastor Brothers. While Gwen and Jes listened to the sermon, they both thought of Jes' altercation with Marvin. Gwen looked over at Jes and saw that she was bothered by the content of the sermon, so she leaned over and whispered to her that it was in GOD'S hands now. Jes responded with a smile and the raising of her head. Pastor Brothers continued his sermon saying:
"We as GOD'S people must began to wait for that equally yoked
person that our HEAVENLY FATHER will send us. Take notice that I
said will send us. We must have faith that GOD will send the man or
woman to us. Therefore we must wait. Does not," pastor Brothers
continued, "the bible state that they that wait upon the LORD shall
renew their strength, that they shall mount up with wings of eagles, that
they shall run and not be weak, that they shall walk and not faint. Does
not the bible say that?"
Again the sanctuary fills with approval.
"Awe, I must not have any bible readers here this Sunday morning."
Pastor Brothers stated sarcastically.
As he continued, he asked the congregation if we would get stronger
by waiting on the LORD, why do we always want to do things our way
first, then, when we have messed up everything, we go to HIM.
"Why is that?" Pastor Brothers asked. "I'll tell you why, cause we
know more than GOD." Laughter engulfs the congregation. "Don't you
know more than GOD Sister Johnson?" Pastor Brothers asked a
member in the church. "Sister Hemp, I know you know more than
GOD!"
Again the congregation fills with laughter and amen's with everyone
knowing how sister Hemp was. Pastor Brothers continued with his
sermon telling the congregation that if they could wait on the LORD, that
special person would enter their lives. He told them that there would be
no need to look, that there would be no need to feel bad about their
relationship going wrong because GOD would make it right the first time.
Jes and Gwen sat there as if Pastor Brothers was among them earlier
that morning in their kitchen. Amazed with the content of the sermon,
Gwen and Jes stood and made their way toward the exit and home.
That evening, with all the lights out, Gwen makes her way through
the house to Jes' room were she found her, in pajama's, laying on the top
of her bed.
"Jes, do you want to talk about anything Honey?"
As Jes lay on top of her bed, a single tear rolled down her face. Jes
wiped the tear away and told Gwen that only time could heal her wound.
"I'll be all right, wait on the LORD right?" Jes responded, reiterating
the subject of the morning sermon.
"Right," Gwen said, "just wait on the LORD, wait I say. Good night
Jes."
"Good night Gwen."
