"Yo, Jones sit down and watch the game with your boys,"
Walter
insisted, besides where else you gon' go and watch the game?"
"Home, and who knows, maybe one day you brotha's will understand
what I'm saying."
"Hey man, I'm sorry you feel as though we are overlooking your need
of love bruh,"
Cupid stated.
"Peace man,"
Allen said as he reached for his jacket and headed for
the door.
"Jones,"
Cupid said sympathetically as he stood and faced Allen, "I'll
call you later."
"Naw, I'll give you a call. Besides I think I'm gonna be taking a few
weeks off from our usual sports meetings. I need to look at my life for a
minute."
Allen drove in silence, again thinking about his life and how he knew
love would play the conclusive role in the success of his life. Allen made
a plan while he was in college and knew that being in love was the
missing component. He had planned to finish school, which he had done
a semester early. He then planned to acquire a job with a top company,
which he did on his first interview. After he had attained the two tasks
that would take care of him financially, he had planned to buy a home,
which he did.
The next step in Allen's plan was to fall in love. Allen
tried, and was unsuccessful on two different occasions. At the time, Allen
couldn't understand what kept him from staying in love with Lailahni,
his first lost love, but he decided to accept the fact that it was a high
school love that just faded out when he went to college. However, later in
life a second broken heart helped him to see that it just wasn't time for
him to be in a long-term relationship and complete his plan. He didn't
understand all the responsibilities that his new job with Nike would
deliver to him and as a result those responsibilities kept him from being
in a committed relationship.
Allen understood that a relationship would
be a responsibility, but he didn't understand how much of a
responsibility it would really be. Consequently, the relationship that he
felt was his cup of serenity was ravished by long hours at work and an
opportunist who encountered a lonely woman lingering on his every
word. From that point, Allen decided to let go and let GOD negotiate
when it came to love. He decided that when the time was right he would
meet the right woman at the right time and in the right place. He told
himself that GOD would allow the right woman to enter his life at a point
and time in his life when he was at the apex of his career and love would
be the only thing to help him soar above the clouds and into the heavens.
He was convinced that he would meet her when he was least expecting
her. Allen thought about his college made plan as he headed for home.
He thought more about that missing component and wondered if the
young lady at the supermarket was her. He thought about the Toronto
store that he would be opening next year, and how that would place his
name amongst the elite Marketing Directors in the company. He felt that
this was the apex of his career and love had to be close at hand. As Allen
thought about all the plans that he had made for himself, he also
contradicted those thoughts by saying that tomorrow was just a theory,
just a good idea, and that he needed to live his life for the day. He knew
that he would still need to plan for the future, but he also realized that
he needed to live for the present.
